Myosa® for Kids
Children with Breathing Disordered Sleep (BDS)
Identifying the symptoms of BDS
Children with BDS can experience a variety of different symptoms which include, but are not limited to:
- Snoring.
- Strained breathing while sleeping.
- Restless sleep.
- Morning fatigue.
- Learning problems.
- Behavioural issues and sometimes even ADHD.
Impaired Development
The underlying causes of these issues often relate back to incorrect breathing and oral muscle habits, which can also impact a child’s growth and development. If left untreated, these incorrect habits can exacerbate associated health issues later in life and may lead to other problems such as jaw joint disorders and Obstructive Sleep Apnoea.
It is important to address breathing and sleep issues as soon as they become apparent to help prevent future development problems related to growth.
BDS in children usually involves three factors:
Breathing
Poor breathing patterns
Disorders
Dysfunctional oral muscles
Structure
Underdeveloped jaws or airway blockage
While allergies, large tonsils, or adenoids are often blamed, surgery alone rarely solves the problem long term. Without addressing the cause, breathing issues usually return.
Research indicates that early intervention to address the mouth breathing and poor myofunctional habits can help promote optimal growth and development, allowing for more long-term stable results.

How it works
Myosa® treatment focuses on addressing the underlying causes by correcting poor breathing and oral habits. This is achieved by:
- Establishing a functional airway.
- Transitioning breathing from the mouth to the nose.
- Strengthening the muscles of the tongue, lips and airway.
Treatment involves wearing the Myosa® appliance for one hour each day and overnight while sleeping, in combination with an activities program containing a unique set of breathing and muscle therapy exercises to assist the child in achieving their treatment goals.
Treatment Journey
Treatment varies depending on individual needs and results are often noticeable within several months.
Your treating practitioner will review your progress and may recommend progression to the Myobrace® orthodontic program if dental or further breathing improvements are desired.
While no treatment can promise complete symptom relief, Myosa® treatment targets the causes of breathing and sleep-related disorders, helping to achieve lasting results.
